Grading Policy:

25% Quizzes, Performance assessment, and Notebook check

25% Labs

25% Class work and Participation

25% Homework: Bring in an article of clothing with a fabric care label

Brief written answers to a question related to class

Bring in a child’s toy from home to evaluate

Keep a record of your food intake.

Class Rules:

1. All students are to respect themselves, others, personal and school property.

2. You must have a folder/binder for class

3. Bring something to write with everyday.

4. Only one pass to the lavatory per period except in emergencies.

5. When you come to class please be seated immediately. Be quiet during attendance and instructions.

6. Stay in your assigned seat unless given permission to leave.

7. No outside food, drink, candy or gum is allowed in this classroom.

8. Do not touch supplies or equipment in class until you are given permission.

9. Please remain seated until the bell rings and I dismiss you. Do not line up at the door.

10. No vulgarity, no hats, no racist remarks, or harassment allowed. Our exploratory course will focus on:

About 6 classes: Babysitting Basics: Care and Safety Techniques, Business Aspects of Babysitting

About 10 classes: Introductory Food Preparation: hands-on experiences, edible science concepts with food. Safe methods.

Chocolate chip Cookies

1/4 cup shortening

1/4 cup butter

1 1/4 cups flour

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup sugar

l egg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup semisweet chocolate pieces

1/2 cups chopped nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 375.

In large bowl beat the shortening and butter with electric mixer on medium speed

about 30 seconds until softened.

Add about half of the flour to the shor~enthg mixture.

Then add the brown sugar, sugar, egg ~, vanilla, and baking soda.

Beat all until thoroughly combined, scraping sides of bowl.

Beat in remaining flour.

Stir in chocolate pieces and nuts.

Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls 2" apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes until lightly browned.

Remove cookies and cool on wire racks.

Milkshakes

2cupmilk1/2 cup Quik Chocolate or Strawberry drink mix

3 cups vanilla ice cream, slightly softened

Put ingredients into blender.

Blend until smooth.

Scrape mixture away from blades with motor off.

Repeat blending until creamy.

Summer Fruit Salad

1 apple, cut in bite sized pieces

I pear, cut in bite size pieces

1 banana, sliced

1 cup grapes

1 cup strawberries fresh or frozen then thawed

1/4 cup orange juice

1/4 cup flaked coconut, optional

1. In large bowl, combine apple, pear, banana, and grapes.

2 Sprinkle the fruit with orange juice.

3. Cut strawberries in half. Add to fruit.

4. Stir gently to mix well.

5. Sprinkle with coconut, if desired.

6. Refrigerate until ready to serve

French Toast

3 eggs

1/2 cup milk

1 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon ciimamon

8 slices bread

2 tablespoons butter

Mix eggs, milk, sugar, and cinnamon.

Heat half of the butter in large skillet on medium.

Dip 4 slices of bread in egg-milk mixture. Place in pan.

Cook bread until golden brown on each side.

Repeat with remaining butter and bread.

Cinnamon Twists

1 package refrigerator dough

3 Tablespoons butter or margarine

1/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 tablespoon chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 425.

Melt butter in small skillet.

Mix cinnamon and sugar in small bowl.

Lightly flour cutting board and dough.

Divide dough into 10 pieces.

Take a portion of dough and roll it in hands to form a 9 mch rope.

Dip in melted butter.

Dip in cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Place on cookie sheet.

Sprinide with nuts.

Repeat with remaining dough.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes.

Popcorn Nachos

2 tbsp. vegetable oil

1/3 c. popcorn kernels

1 c. grated cheese

2 tbsp. chopped  green onions

1 tsp. chili powder

In large pan, heat the oil on medium.

Add 2 or 3 of the popcorn kernels. When the kernels pop, add the remaining kernels and cover the pot.

Shake the pan often.  When the popping stops, remove the pan from the heat.

quickly pour the popcorn into a large baking pan with sides.

Sprinkle the popcorn with the grated cheese, then the green onions, then the chili powder.

Set the overn to broil.

Broil the nachos for 2 to 3 minutes, until the cheese is melted.

serve immediately.

Honey-Mustard Salad Dressing

2 tablespoons cider vinegar

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon Dijon-style mustard

salt and pepper to taste

1. Place vinegar and oil in a small jar with a tight lid

2. Shake well

3. Add honey and mustard and shake.

4. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Shake before pouring over your

favorite salad vegetables

Mini Pizzas

4 English muffins

1 cup pizza sauce

1/2 cup grated mozarella cheese

2 Tablespoons parrnesean cheese

Preheat oven to 400.

Separate English muffins.

Spread sauce on each muffin half

Sprinkle with mozarefla cheese.

Sprinkle with parmesean cheese.

Place on cookie sheet.

Bake about 10 minutes or until cheese melts.
