7th Grade Reading

 

 

Curriculum:

We will be exploring many different forms or Genre of literature this year. The literary selections that we will be reading will include examples of;

  • The Short Story
  • Essays
  • Biographies
  • Poetry
  • Drama

Some of the differnet text structures that we will be learning about will include;

  • The Main Idea and Supporting Details
  • Problems and Solutions
  • Sequencing
  • Cause and Effect
  • Comparing and Contrasting

S.E. Hinton's novel "The Outsiders" will be read. Students will be responsible for reading selections from this novel independently. Additionally, students will be required to create a presentation based on one chapter from the novel. Creativity is encouraged!

SDtudents presentations may take any form approved by the instructor and may include;

  • A story board which shows the action and events in the chapter.
  • A dramatic recreation of on scene from the chapter.
  • A Power Point Presentation demonstrating on of the text structures we have covered i.e. Main Idea and Supporting Details.

 

Grading:

YOU are reponsible for your grade. Your grade reflects the work you do in class. You earn your grade; it is not given to you.

Grading in this class is on a "points" system.

  • Class work can earn 20 points
  • Homework can earn 20 points
  • Quizzes and Tests can earn 10 points

The number of points you earn is doubled to compute you grade.

 

Classroom Expectations:

  • Be on time.
  • Be prepared; bring all the materials you will need.  I.e. Binder, pen or pencil, highlighter and AGENDA.
  • Be respectful of the others in the class.
  • Follow the instructor's directions.
