Senior High Chorus

Happy New Year!

I would like to congratulate senior Chris Romeo for his fantastic performance at the Central Jersey Music Educator's Region II concert held in January at Hopewell Valley Regional High School.  Being part of a group such as this can be  a life changing experience for a high school student.  Chris auditioned with other basses from the entire central New Jersey public and private schools and was chosen to be one of approximately 25 singers in the second bass section.  The music chosen for this concert was magnificent in its scope and challenge.  Chris rose to the occasion.  We are very proud of him.

Any choir members who wish to attend a Collegiate A Cappella competition at Drexel University in Philadelphia on Saturday, March 1 should bring home a permission slip and turn in $7 for their ticket.  SHR will provide transportation.  They should report to  school at 5:30 pm on Saturday, March 1 and will return home approximately by 11 pm.  The building will not be open at that hour so they cannot access personal property at that time.

We are in the process of arranging a Broadway theater trip in the next month or so, and will be sending home information as soon as we have details.

February is Black History Month and we are presently studying about the Spiritual as a true  and important form of classical choral music.  Students are writing stories about slaves who might have written these slave religious songs, many of which had double meanings and were used as secret codes to the underground railroad.

Happy Black History Month!!
