Computer Exploration 7
Students are currently doing keyboarding practice and taking timings to determine their speed and accuracy. Once a week we have a relay race! Ask students to tell you how this works!
Once we go over the letter keys, appropriate reaches, speed and accuracy building, we will go on to do some applicatons using MS Word, the Internet for research, and MS Power Point.
COMPUTER EXPLORATION 8
Students are currently researching a selected career in business. They were given criteria to follow for their research as well as instruction on resources on the Internet and from the Library (from Doc P).
We have also gone over how to set up a Power Point presentation on the information they collect on their careers. Once they complete their Power Point, each student will use the InFocus machine to present their work to the class.
Our next project, their final project, will be a culmination of using all the software features and formatting features we went over during their time in this class. The grade they receive will be a test grade for this project.
INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS
We have started Chapter 6 on Business Structures and will do a number of related activities outside of the realm of the textbook and workbook for this chapter.
Students have an ongoing project on a country they selected during the second marking period. This project is described on page 52 and they are doing
- Project Activities 1 and 2.
- Activity 3...students will start getting some ideas together as to what type of business they feel would prosper in their selected country.
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
We have been studying a Chapter on Market Analysis and doing related activities outside of the textbook. Students completed a project with which they had to develop a business concept for the Lambertville area. Once they came up with a concept for their project, they had to create a Power Point to present to their classmates...competing against each other for the best idea. The location for this business was a factor, and it had to be a place that was available for sale or that has an existing business that may consider selling if the price was right. The more outside research they did, the more points they would score. The winner of the competition on the "business concept" will get a small prize as well as having us use the idea for our future study of business start up and expansion.
In the presentation, the following areas had to be included:
-
Give the business a name...identify your product or service
-
Survey and identify potential competitors...list the companies by name and location
-
Identify who the customers would be
-
Describe the benefit you would provide that sets you apart from the competition
-
How would your product or service be delivered to the customers?
Students completed a class assignment on "Market Analysis" to define a problem and describe how they would go about creating and conducting market research for this business idea...a "Create Your Own Sofa" shop that would be a hypothetical business for Lambertville. Students had to make up a list of questions they would use in conducting their research on this topic. We will be discussing their results in class.
In our study of "market research," students are going to conduct a survey and give samples of POWER BARS during Unit Lunch. They are working in teams/shifts to conduct their research. They developed the questions for the survey, and, with the suggestion from our Asst. Principal, Mr. Godown, will be using SurveyMonkey to create their survey. Once the information is collected and statistics are studied, a determination will be made as to which flavor(s) will be offered at the Eagle's Nest School Store. Of course, even if they are going to be offered--if there is a market for this product--will be determined by their market research.
After a review on the Chapter on Market Analysis, students will take a quiz today, February 14, after which they will take a test on the Chapter on Tuesday, February 19.
