Homework Guidelines and Tips

Homework Policies

·        To receive full credit, all assignments are to fulfill the following requirements

o       Turned in on the assigned due date

o       Complete in full

o       List the student’s full name

o       Written in standard blue ink, black ink, or pencil

o       Completed on standard 8 ½” X 11” lined paper – if applicable

o       Neat and clean

·        Students failing to meet any of these requirements will either have their assignment returned to be redone or lose three points from the assignment’s graded score.

v    Students who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) may have their assignment modified in accordance with their IEP and/or be granted extended time to complete the assignment without penalty.

Typical Homework Assignments:

·        Textbook Assignments: Students will typically be assigned to define the Key Terms, read, and answer the Analysis Questions from the upcoming textbook section.  This homework will often be assigned before the section is discussed in class and is intended to provide the student with an overview of the concepts before they are formally taught.  While it is understood that students may have difficulty with some Analysis Questions they are expected to attempt them and may adjust their answers when the questions are reviewed in class.  These assignments are to be done in the student’s science journal and are scored on completeness.

·        Worksheets: A worksheet reviewing the current section is often assigned after the topics have been taught and reviewed in class.  Class notes and the textbook are useful resources for completing these assignments.  Worksheets will be graded based on the accuracy of the student’s answers.
